What file formats are supported?
Our work is done in Microsoft Word, either for Windows or for Macintosh.
One advantage of using Microsoft Word for editing is that changes can be clearly shown using the revisions, or track changes feature. This function allows deleted material and inserted material to be presented in different formats and colors and offers several ways for you to review and accept changes. This option is especially important for small changes that otherwise would likely be missed, such as the insertion of different punctuation marks.
Other formats will also be accepted, so please contact us for more information or any queries that you may have.
Do you edit LaTex Documents?
It is more efficient for us to edit manuscripts in Microsoft Word. It also allows you to manage the edits better. If you are able, please save the manuscript as .rtf, .doc, or .docx before submitting it for editing.
LaTeX allows you to save your manuscript as .rtf with a program like: latex2rtf. If you can save it as a .doc or .docx file, even better. If not, we can work with a .pdf file.
If you send a .pdf file, please save the manuscript with and without the equations, tables, and figures. Therefore, you will be sending us two .pdf files: one with only the text and one with text plus all the equations, tables, and figures. Without the latter elements, we should be able to convert the “text” .pdf file into a Microsoft Word file. We will return the edited text file to you in Microsoft Word.
Are weekends and holidays included in the turnaround (delivery) time?
Yes. Our editors work 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If you submit your manuscript on a Friday, it will be returned to you edited with our normal service by the following Thursday to Saturday (6–8 days) and with our rush service by the following Monday to Tuesday (3–4 days).
Does your editing include formatting?
Who are your editors?
All our editors are native English speakers and Ph.D. and/or M.D. scientists. They all have considerable experience in writing and editing all kinds of documents including grant proposals, theses, and manuscripts submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Will you reedit my manuscript if changes are required?
Do you include tables, figures, and references in the word count?
It is up to you. Our normal policy is to include tables, table titles, figures, and figure legends in the word count. If you do not want them edited, just let us know and we will not include them in the word count.
To save you money, we do not edit the references and the author information unless you request it.
How do you guarantee quality of service?
While no editing service can honestly guarantee acceptance for publication, San Francisco Edit has a proven track record of consistently high success. We use a team of professionals with years of experience and have processes that ensure the quality of our work. Once we accept a deadline, we meet it.
We also take responsibility for any comments by referees and/or editors about the quality of the final product in the case of non–English-speaking scientists publishing in English. If you receive comments that there are problems with the English usage in a paper, we will edit the paper again for no charge.
How do I pay for your services?
We accept payment by credit card, check, or bank transfer. For more information, see pricing.
How long will you take to answer my emails?

What do I need to know about turnaround (delivery) times?
San Francisco Edit is one of the fastest providers of editing and document services. The average time for turning around a manuscript is 6–8 days, and 3–4 days for rush jobs.
We have a first-come, first-served policy. Jobs are assessed and committed in the order in which they arrive. The only exceptions are formal requests for rush orders. Rush orders are moved up in the queue. Click here for more information.
How can I schedule work?
If you have a mission-critical, time-sensitive request, we recommend that you schedule it with us as far in advance as possible. By scheduling in advance, you guarantee that editing or support capacity will be there when you need it and that your turnaround time will be as fast as possible. Although we are usually able to provide prompt service even without this notice, we cannot guarantee a delivery time until you submit your manuscript and confirm the terms of your request. To make your scheduling request, email us.
Can you guarantee my manuscript will be accepted for publication?
Our goal and obligation is to provide you with a manuscript that is correctly written in English and presents your research in the best possible manner. It is not our practice to judge the merit of the research presented in the manuscript. Acceptance of your manuscript depends on the peer-review group and/or editor of the publication where you have submitted your manuscript.
In addition to editing for clarity, grammar, etc., we do make conceptual comments as needed regarding the manuscript.
Research shows that you have a better chance of having your manuscript accepted if it is well written and the English is correct.
